ob Title: Wean to Finish Unit Manager
Supervisor: CEO
Responsibilities: Supervise and oversee all aspects of grower management, including daily mandatory required care responsibilities. These responsibilities include removing pigs that have died over night, walking through the pens twice daily and administering treatment to sick pigs immediately, checking feeder, temperature, and fan settings daily (and adjusting as necessary), and checking water flow daily. Along with these daily responsibilities, the Unit Manager is responsible for following these good management practices:
- Power wash and disinfect inside of facilities and feeders prior to admittance of each lot.
- Establish a favorable temperature environment in the facilities.
- Fill pens according to size, sort for pigs that don’t compete well in their own pen, or animals that are sick and need extra care.
- Collect and properly dispose of all dead animals.
- Maintain access roads to facilities in good working order.
- Implement rodent and fly control procedures.
- Maintain foot disinfectant pans at all entry doors and require use of those pans prior to admittance into facilities.
- Keep dogs, cats, and other domestic animals out of facilities.
- Practice ethical treatment of animals.
- Maintain and forward (on a timely basis) the required reports, including: Monthly Inventory Report, Daily management Log, and Feed Usage Report.
- Follow feeding specifications.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to organize and maintain herd health records and ability to communicate with management personnel. Knowledge of routine building maintenance and repairs is helpful. Must have a good understanding of pig flows and animal husbandry/doctoring skills.
Experience: Previous experience in swine production necessary.
Education and Training: Associate’s degree from an agricultural or technical school, with a major in animal production desired.
